Mini-Review: Blooded by Amanda Carlson

Title: Blooded
Author: Amanda Carlson
Series: Jessica McClain #0.5
Publisher: Orbit
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Release Date: 04/11/12

Summary:
Jessica McClain was born the only female in an all male race. The only problem is -- she's no wolf. Called a curse, a witch and the Daughter of Evil by the superstitious wolves, Jessica decides to fight for her freedom, at age nineteen, the only way she can -- in the ring.

When she's brutally attacked right after her fight, is it enough to finally earn her freedom off Compound, or will she be forced to endure the hatred even longer...

Mini-Review: This novella is a perfect example of how to introduce a character and her world, and make me want the first novel to ASAP. I love new twists on paranormal lore, and Jessica being a female human born to a werewolf in a world in which all werewolves are male is a great twist. Add to that a myth that has led most of the wolves to think she is evil incarnate, and Jessica has her plate full trying to prove herself. This novella was filled with action and great fight scenes as Jessica tried to show the werewolves that she could hold her own. I also enjoyed the glimpses of other characters that I hope to learn more about when the first novel in the series releases.
