Stacking the Shelves (24)

Thanks to Tynga at Tynga's Reviews for hosting Stacking the Shelves and making this awesome graphic!

Stacking The Shelves is all about the books we are adding to our shelves each week, sharing with you our excitement for our newest titles and maybe have you discover a new book in the process! --Tynga

I'm tentatively back. For those of you who don't follow me on twitter, I have recently been going through a break up. It has been hard (we were together for over six years) and my reading/blogging suffered even more than I thought it would during the holiday season. Now the holidays are over and I'm slowly putting my heart back together. This post may seem like a lot of books, but remember I haven't posted one of these since November and it also includes Christmas.

Bought:
Opal by Jennifer L. Armentrout [Buy Now]
Beta by Rachel Cohn [Buy Now]
Reached by Ally Condie (signed) [Buy Now]
Touched by Corrine Jackson [Buy Now]
The Farm by Emily McKay [Buy Now]
Black City by Elizabeth Richards [Buy Now]
Renegade by J.A. Souders (signed) [Buy Now]
Undeadly by Michele Vail [Buy Now]
Beta was super marked down on Black Thanksgiving (I went in at 8:45, it was not Friday yet...) I found a signed copy of Reached at one of the local used bookstores. Renegade is by a local author, so I was able to make one of her signings.

Touch of Power by Maria V. Snyder [Buy Now]
These titles were $1.99, $0.99, and $1.99 when I purchased them, but may no longer be those prices.

Review:

Shadowlands by Kate Brian ARC [Buy Now]
Cinders & Sapphires by Leila Rasheed ARC [Pre-order]
I received a copy of The Darkest Minds for review via Authors on the Web. I did not request the other two ARCs, they just showed up. They aren't genres I would normally read, but I will give them a shot.

Bought:
Her Sky Cowboy by Beth Ciotta [Buy Now]
Poltergeeks by Sean Cummings [Buy Now]
Fated by Alyson Noel [Buy Now]
Echo by Alyson Noel [Buy Now]
I hadn't been able to find Poltergeeks at any local bookstore until I ventured out near the outlet malls with my mom and went to a different B&N. I have been waiting for Fated to come out in paperback because I'm trying to save money where I can, and I'm glad I did since Echo did not come out in hardcover. I like when they match. And I grabbed Her Sky Cowboy on a whim because it sounded pretty interesting and I can't say no to steampunk.

Kindle:
So Close to You by Rachel Carter [Buy Now]
Ocean's Surrender by Denise Townsend
So Close to You was $2.99 when I downloaded it, but it may not still be that awesome price. I really enjoyed Ocean's Touch so I had to pick up Ocean's Surrender.

Birthday Books

Today, instead of doing my normal Stacking the Shelves post, I will be highlighting only the books I received for my birthday. I apologize for how long this post took to put up (considering my birthday was October 26th), but the package from B&N took longer than expected due to the hurricane. Normal Stacking the Shelves posts will be back next weekend (hopefully).

As I showcased in an earlier Stacking the Shelves post, I received a number of giftcards to Amazon and B&N. I kept track of which giftcard each book was purchased with so that I could thank everyone for specific books. (A few didn't add up completely perfectly, but I'm sure I'm the only one that bothers...) I also got a couple checks from my grandparents, and although I did buy some clothes, I also bought a couple more books. Don't act like you're surprised...

I ended up buying a LOT more YA than UF or PNR, but that's probably because I do not wait to buy new UF releases. I pretty much purchase them every Tuesday. YA on the otherhand, I don't always buy right away because hardcovers are more expensive.

From my Dad

Kindle:
Crewel by Gennifer Albin
Cursed by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Starling by Lesley Livingston
The Tourist by Clare London **
Defiance by C.J. Redwine
After the Crux by Dani Worth **
What's Left of Me by Kat Zhang

B&N:
Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan
Phantom Shadows by Dianne Duvall
Black Lament by Christina Henry
The Blessed by Tonya Hurley
Beautiful Redemption by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl

From Christen

Kindle:
The Darkest Day by Britt Bury
The Assassin's Curse by Cassandra Rose Clarke
Blood of Innocence by Tami Dane
Storm by Brigid Kemmerer *
The Given & the Taken by L.A. Witt **

From my brother

Kindle:
Wake by Amanda Hocking *
Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas *
Carnival of Souls by Melissa Marr *

From my grandparents

Angel's Ink by Jocelynn Drake
Desperately Seeking Shapeshifter by Jessica Sims
The Shattered Dark by Snady Williams

*I'm sure the titles marked with one asterisk seem familiar. I had already purchased these titles in print. I ran into a bit of a cash flow issue, so I returned them knowing my birthday was coming up. The cats thank me for this, because one of the things I needed to buy with this money was cat food.
**The titles marked with two asterisks are titles I have already read and enjoyed, and should be posting some reviews soon.

Stacking The Shelves is all about the books we are adding to our shelves each week, sharing with you our excitement for our newest titles and maybe have you discover a new book in the process! --Tynga

Before I get to the books, I would like to apologize for my lack of posting. I have had some personal mayhem recently, and the result has led to no blogging and almost no reading this past week. I may expand on the subject in a post at some point in the future, but for now I'll just say that the next couple of months are going to be tough for me. But enough about me, on to the books!

Review:
A Reason to Believe by Diana Copeland eARC
Moonlight by Katie Salidas
Thanks to Netgalley and Carina Press for the first title and Katie for the second.

Bought:
Dark Light of Day by Jill Archer [Buy Now]
The Hallowed Ones by Laura Bickle [Buy Now]
Adaption by Malinda Lo [Buy Now]
Boyfriend from Hell by Jamie Quaid [Buy Now]
Alice in Zombieland by Gena Showalter [Buy Now]
Tons of great books came out these past two weeks, and I seriously had to pace myself. I grabbed the ones I absolutely had to have, and will hold off on a few until my birthday next month. I was unsure whether I wanted Alice in Zombieland in print or Kindle, but when I saw all of the detailing, I knew I had to have it in print.

Kindle:
Blade Song by J.C. Daniels [Buy Now]
Jekel Loves Hyde by Beth Fantaskey [Buy Now]
Dreaming Anastasia by Joy Preble [Buy Now]
Grabbed these titles because of the prices. When I purchased them they were $2.99, $1.24, and $0.99 respectively, and may not still be those prices.

Thanks to Netgalley and Strange Chemistry for this title.

Bought:
Embrace of the Damned by Anya Bast [Buy Now]
A Lady Can Never Be Too Curious by Mary Wine [Buy Now]
I have picked up the Anya Bast title numerous time, only to put it back down because I found something else I wanted more, so I finally picked it up. The other title was something I hadn't heard of before, but am really intrigued by.

Gift:
A Bad Day For Voodoo by Jeff Strand [Buy Now]
Christen got stuck at work really late and was having a bad day, so I picked this up for her before I picked her up. She had been eye-balling it every time we went shopping, but always ended up picking something else up to buy.

Library:
Above by Leah Bobet [Buy Now]
Just for Fins by Tera Lynn Childs [Buy Now]
Spell Bound by Rachel Hawkins [Buy Now]

I'm back! I know this seems like A LOT of books, but I've been out of commission for a couple weeks. We got the house painted (inside and out) and new flooring. Due to this, the internet was spotty, all of my books had to be packed up, and it just really disrupted life. I continued reading, but mostly stayed off the computer while it was happening. And now I'm having panic attacks when I think about putting all of my books back. They're currently packed up in seventeen 55 quart plastic bins and ten fabric bins. That will be tackled Monday... Or at least some of it. Anyway, on to the books!

Review:
Second Chance by Heather Brewer ARC [Preorder]

Kindle:
Croak by Gina Damico [Buy Now]
When I bought this title, it was on sale for $1.99.

Purchased by Christen:
Moonglow by Kristen Callihan [Buy Now]

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo [Buy Now]
A Beautiful Evil by Kelly Keaton [Buy Now]
Storm by Brigid Kemmerer [Buy Now]
I received a $50 giftcard from my employer for participating in a healthcare survey and biometric screening. So, of course, I ordered more books. I have one more from the giftcard that I'm waiting for that hasn't released yet. I think the giftcard covered all but a dollar after my discount.

Used:
From Dead to Worse by Charlaine Harris [Buy Now]
We finally have the whole series! This book isn't pictured because it is still packed away from the house renovations.

Library:
The Miseducation of Cameron Post by Emily M. Danforth [Buy Now]
Harbinger by Sara Wilson Etienne [Buy Now]
The Hunt by Andrew Fukuda [Buy Now]
Glimmer by Phoebe Kitandis [Buy Now]

Bought:
Lies Beneath by Anne Greenwood Brown [Buy Now]
Forgotten by Cat Patrick [Buy Now]
The Iron Wyrm Affair by Lilith Saintcrow [Buy Now]
I'm very excited for Lies Beneath and The Iron Wyrm Affair. I grabbed Forgotten on a whim while we were shopping at Sam's because it intrigued me.

Bargain:
Accidentally Catty by Dakota Cassidy [Buy Now]
Darkness Becomes Her by Kelly Keaton [Buy Now]
Definance by Lili St. Crow [Buy Now]
Alchemy of Forever by Avery Williams [Buy Now]
I hit the jackpot at Books-A-Million. Defiance was $4, and the rest were $3. I grabbed Accidentally Catty for Christen. I finally got myself a keeper copy of Darkness Becomes Her. I still need book #3 in the Strange Angels series but couldn't pass up the deal on Defiance. I almost picked up a paperback copy of Alchemy of Forever last week, and I'm glad I waited because I like this cover more.

Edit: I didn't realize until adding my "buy now" links that The Iron Wyrm Affair doesn't release until August 7th. This is the second month in a row my local B&N has had a title from Orbit (and a steampunk title at that) out over a week early. I try my best to buy books after the release date, but I'm not perfect. This book wasn't on my radar at all (no idea how it slipped by), so I didn't think anything of it.

Bought:
Wicked Nights by Gena Showalter [Pre-order]

I was hesitant to by This is Not a Test at first. I thought it was hardcover and I'm not always a zombie fan. But when I was at B&N and saw it was paperback, I figured I'd give it a shot. And I'm so glad I did because it was amazing.

Kindle:
Eve by Anna Carey [Buy Now]
Tarnished by Karina Cooper [Buy Now]
I was looking on Amazon this yesterday to see when Eve came out in paperback to find it was only $2.99 on Kindle. Sold! And Tarnished was only $4.99 when I purchased it earlier in the week.

Spider's Lullaby by James R. Tuck
Thanks to Netgalley/Kensington for the first, Netgalley/Random House for the second, and James/Kensington for the third.

Bought:
God Save the Queen by Kate Locke [Buy Now]
I had been seeing this novel on every other blog, so when I saw it at the bookstore I didn't think anything of it and purchased a copy. It wasn't until I got home that I realized the majority of the sightings were from those who went to BEA and that I purchased the book about 17 days early. I felt horrible. Had I known beforehand, I would've given them to an employee to take off the shelf. I understand a couple days early, but more than two week? And this is a store that normally doesn't have new releases out on Wednesday or Thursday... Anyway, I'm currently reading it in hopes that getting my review up before the release date will balance out the whoopsie.

Kindle:
Angel of Darkness by Cynthia Eden
After Midnight by Lynn Viehl
I've been wanting to read these titles for a while now, so when I saw their sale prices, I couldn't resist. These titles were $2.99 and $1.99 respectively when I purchased them. They may or may not still be those prices.

Library:
Serpent's Kiss by Melissa de la Cruz [Buy Now]
Revived by Cat Patrick [Buy Now]
I had Serpent's Kiss on hold since I enjoyed the first book, and I'm really intrigued by Revived.

Kindle:
A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness [Buy Now]
Earlier in the week, this title went on sale for $2.99. I had been a bit hesitant and was probably going to wait until I got a copy from the library, but I couldn't beat the price.

Stacking The Shelves is all about the books we are adding to our shelves each week, sharing with you our excitement for our newest titles and maybe have you discover a new book in the process! --Tynga

Bought:
Dark Kiss of the Reaper by Kristen Painter [Buy Now]
Vengeance Moon by Lee Roland [Buy Now]
Dark Kiss by Michelle Rowen [Buy Now]
For anyone who didn't check out my post earlier in the week about the signing I went to last Sunday, these are the books I picked up. The Painter/Roland titles are signed. Although Michelle Rowen was not at the signing, this was the first time I found a copy of Dark Kiss and had to grab it.

Used:
Touch of Madness by C.T. Adams & Cathy Clamp [Buy Now]
The Devil's Playground by Jenna Black [Buy Now]
Timeless by Gail Carriger [Buy Now]
Wait for Dusk by Jocelynn Drake [Buy Now]
Enemy Lover by Karin Harlow [Buy Now]
Second Grave on the Left by Darynda Jones [Buy Now]
A Kiss Before the Apocalypse by Thomas E. Sniegoski [Buy Now]
Angelology by Danielle Trussoni [Buy Now]
I only paid about $14 for all of these! One local bookstore has an overstock sale every Saturday, so I got five of them for $1 a piece. The Darynda Jones copy was $4 and it looks brand new. Overall, great finds on this trip.

Library:
The Mane Event by Shelley Laurenston [Buy Now]
The Thirteenth Sacrifice by Debbie Viguie [Buy Now]
Variant by Robinson Wells [Buy Now]
Home Improvement, Undead Edition anthology [Buy Now]
Christen picked up The Mane Event because she wanted to read the first of the series before the one further along on her Kindle. I think we showed a lot more restraint than usual on this library trip.
