Giveaway: Discount Armageddon by Seanan McGuire

Today, I'm giving away a copy of Discount Armageddon by Seanan McGuire. When I went by the bookstore to pick up a copy today, I decided to grab a second one in hopes of putting some good book karma into the world. Why do you ask? Well, I don't want to get into a lot of detail, but there was a bit of drama involving the book shipping early. The books that were shipped early will not count against week one sales, which could possibly jeopardize future books in the series. Plus, the author received horrible e-mails and was called dispicable names because the e-book wasn't also being released early. All of this negativity needed to be balanced out, and I figured what better way than giving away a copy!

To enter, all you need to do is answer the following question: Do you pre-order, or hit the bookstores every Tuesday? (I personally love taking my weekly trip to the bookstore. It helps me de-stress after work!)

Normally, I don't do extra entries, but I feel like mixing things up.

Title: Discount Armageddon
Author: Seanan McGuire
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Series: InCryptid #1
Release Date: 03/06/12
Summary:
Ghoulies. Ghosties. Long-legged beasties. Things that go bump in the night... The Price family has spent generations studying the monsters of the world, working to protect them from humanity -- and humanity from them. Enter Verity Price. Despite being trained from birth as a cryptozoologist, she'd rather dance a tango than tangle with a demon, and is spending a year in Manhattan while she pursues her career in professional ballroom dance. Sounds pretty simple, right? It would be, if it weren't for the talking mice, the telepathic mathematicians, the asbestos supermodels, and the trained monster-hunter sent by the Price family's old enemies, the Covenant of St. George. When a Price girl meets a Covenant boy, high stakes, high heels, and a lot of collateral damage are almost guaranteed. To complicate matters further, local cryptids are disappearing, strange lizard-men are appearing in the sewers, and someone's spreading rumors about a dragon sleeping underneath the city...

  1. Wow. You are such a nice blogger. I've read/reviewed this one already (loved it) so I know it's a nice thing you do. I'll spread the word.

  2. If I can, I try to read on my Kindle. If I'm really dying for the book, I pre-order and then it's usually waiting on my K when I wake up on release day morning. Sometimes the e-versions get delayed, but I know that's not the author's fault. I can't believe people gave her grief over that - that's strictly the publisher's fault and she has zero control over it.

  3. I don't pre-order and I don't hit the bookstores every week. I keep a wish list and as I accumulate books I want and they're released, I do a bulk purchase and get the books I've been wanting all at once.

  6. Thank you for the giveaway! I don't tend to pre order books. The only time I think I ever purchased a book right when it came out where the last couple Harry Potters. I have so many on my to-read list I tend to get to new books a bit later unless it really catches my eye.

  7. Sounds like a fun read - I've been keeping my eye on this one.

I used to stalk the bookstore every Tuesday after work . . . and get really annoyed when they were slow stocking the shelves, or missed that one new release I absolutely HAD to have. Since I tend to read most of my books electronically now, I get that instant buy gratification online instead.

  10. I tend to buy books the week they come out bc of what I know about numbers and such, even if I don't read it for months. The only time I may wait is if I'm a couple books behind in a series.

SQT, thanks for spreading the word. :)

JenM, the issue was Amazon/B&N shipping early, so no pre-orders will count towards first week sales. The publisher made them not release the e-book until the release date. This is why people were being rude. :(

Bob, that's the problem I often have. Before our local borders closed, many employees would run from me bc I would always need something from the back that they hadn't put out yet. I actually had to wait for the employee at B&N to finish setting the new releases yesterday in order to grab DA. (and it was Wednesday!)

  11. I usually don't pre-order because for some reason it makes the waiting more difficult for me lol.

  14. I love the reasoning behind this giveaway! I usually pre-order but I'll admit to not doing this very often. I much prefer a trip to the bookstore but I don't have one that is close other than my used bookstore. Thanks for hosting this contest!!

  16. I'll preorder a book if I've been waiting for it forever. I have this deep seated fear that one day I'll want a new book and all copies of it will suddenly disappear before I can get my hands on it. Going to bookstores every Tuesday would be dangerous for me-- I am a bad impulse buyer, especially when the book is right in front of me.

  17. If it's something I really want to read I'll preorder, but other than that I'll hit the book store and peruse. Thanks for the giveaway!

  20. Thank you for the generous giveaway Sara! I usually pre-order some of my books, while others I just purchase online. I go to the bookstore occasionally, but I have an Amazon membership so I just usually get my books from there.

  23. Ah here, I posted my first ever tweet, followed your blog, you and Seanan McGuire and then noticed that it's US and Canada only!

Ah well, if I win you can send it to my cousin (if that's okay!) and she'll make sure it gets to me.

Anyway, I'm a very impatient person, so I only order online when I know the book is not available in bookshops here (Ireland).

I love buying books in store, and I find it sad that so many bookshops are going out of business.

  25. I just found your blog because I threw "discount armageddon" into google and this post came up-- and I've spent about a half hour wandering around in it.

I have a big mixture of ways that I buy books. Some I pre order, some I download, and a lot of them I discover lat in the day so that I look for them used.

I would rather buy a dead tree book because they smell good. Especially older books, that wiff of glue and paper and ink...
